St Gauderic Music Festival 2011
We are delighted to report on the success of the St Gauderic Music Festival 2011. There was a choir of over 50 members, an excellent orchestra, some highly talented soloists and conductors, and a wide range of beautiful music. Nigel Speak was again our Musical Director, ably assisted by Jonathan Lilley as accompanist and organist.
This festival was bigger and better than the previous. There were four concerts, each of a different character, between 26 – 29 August in different venues in and around Mirepoix; a feast of classical music of interest to local residents and to visitors to the region.
Significant innovations this year:
- In parallel with the long established choral strand to the festival, the orchestra was organised for a 5-day course from 24-29 August. The Orchestra featured in the Saturday concert (27th) at St Gauderic, as well as in the main concert in Mirepoix Cathedral on Sunday 28th.
- We were especially delighted to promote a lunchtime organ recital in Mirepoix Cathedral on Monday 29th. Jonathan gave a remarkable performance on the organ. We hope that this will be an ongoing feature.
